The weather cannot be more perfect as it is right now here at Kolkata. A steady sunlight and a cool breeze. A perfect day to spend outside with family. Eco Tourism Park is located at the Rajarhat, Kolkata. Rajarhat, being a new city, an extension of Kolkata, managed to maintain it’s clean and tidy status. The park is also no exception. It was Friday, a working day, and yet it was packed up with people. I can’t imagine what happens there in the weekends or holidays! Anyway here are a few snapshots from inside the park. I hope you like them.
Had a chance to revisit Digha last week. I really do like that place. Nearest beach to our home. My last visit was on August 2013. If you follow my last visit you will get some details on the place.
I usually take bus from my place to Digha as we have direct bus connection and it takes around 5 hours. This time we did it differently, took a train. Howrah-Digha Superfast AC Express is a nice train to travel with. The AC Chair car has a huge legroom and descently comfortable seats. Foods are not so good, not so bad either (when compared to the IRCTC restaurant services). It is around 3 hours on the train.
Last time I visited this place was nowhere near like this. Everything changed. New Parks created and lots of benches installed so you can spend lots of time enjoying the sea view. Cows are unavoidable though!
This is the center of the Biswa Bangla (বিশ্ব বাংলা) Park. The globe with big B inside looks good!
The cranes welcomes you to the Park. They illuminates after evening.
You can buy some good looking handicrafts items from Old Digha markets attached to the beach.
A breathtaking view from the hotel. You cannot simply get down and start swimming at this place. There’s separate public beach built for that.
And this is that public beach. Here you can enjoy a nice seabath.
Enjoy your stay.
How can you enjoy a weekend to the full? Hangout with friends, at-least a few hours. Those few hours will make all the differences. It is difficult if your best buddies are not always around. Example me. But when we are together it is like a different world.
We had a nice get together at Cafe Coffee Day last year. Chatting about a lot of things over Cappuccinos. Good memories.
Chilka Lake is the largest coastal lagoon in Indian subcontinent and second largest in the World. Spread over 1100 square kilometers this Lake covers three districts (Puri, Ganjam and Khurda) of the state of Odisha. Odisha is the neighbour state of West bengal therefore it is not too far from my hometown. It took almost 7-8 hours by Train to reach Puri, which was our actual destination and I never thought that I am going to visit Chilka Lake as well!
It was almost an hour of driving from our hotel at Puri beach to Chilka Lake. There are a lot of cars available for hire. Take one and get going.
When I first saw the place my face was like a comical :O, it was a huge lake, I could not make out the end of it. Here and there some island-like sandy greenery can be seen. Wind was blowing like mad. The Lake was not deep though. You will occasionally see some buffaloes or cows crossing the Lake, or taking a bath.
You can hire boats on hourly basis for your further exploration.
if you are planning to hire the boat for more than 2 hours please remember to buy something to eat or drink before starting your adventure Travel. There are very little option (actually no option) to eat once you are inside the Lake.
Let me tell you one thing, and remember this. You will see a lot of advertisement at Chilka travel agencies and they will show you a lot of photographs of Dolphins jumping out of the Lakes etc. etc. Let me make this clear, “You will never see that sort of thing here.“ Occasionally you can see a Dolphin’s nose or tails but that’s all. So if you are going there to see Dolphins, you will definitely be disappointed.
Migratory birds are the most famous attraction in this place. It was unfortunate for me as I did not know anything about it and missed it! It was August when I visited that place. They comes and stays around winter season. So winter will be the best season to visit Chilka Lake to get the most of it.
On the island, you will get some stalls where you can buy some foods. You will also find some hotels which will serve you fresh fish, crabs, lobster coming directly from the Lake itself.
The Sea Mouth, where the Lake is going into the Bay of Bengal, is a must see place. But most of the boatman will not be agree to take you there. They will tell you different stories about how dangerous it is etc. etc. But try to convince them, as we did for out boatman (he was a good man though, did not charge extra, whereas some of them can charge you extra for the trip). Believe me it is worth seeing!
I felt those four hours passed like four minutes for me. A perfect day at a perfect place. Is there more good things to do than eating and traveling in holidays?
We don’t have any beach here at Kolkata. One popular beach in West Bengal is at Digha, that is almost some 4 hours driving from Kolkata. We have many other beaches here in West Bengal. Only one other I can remember now is at Bakkhali, that is at South 24 Parganas district.
Digha, is situated at the district of East Midnapur which is having many more beautiful beaches in addition to Digha. Whenever we visit Digha, we make sure to have a round-trip to those beaches as well. They are very near to it.
Old Digha and New Digha, that is the two major parts of the area. If you love crowds, lights, markets, peoples, foods you must stay at Old Digha. If you love to be in silence, peace, pure nature and large beach, you must stay at New Digha.
One hour drive from Digha, there is another beach which is equally famous in this area. Guessed it right! Mandarmani.
It is new beach so the markets are still growing there. You will find everything from Hotel fare to restaurants foods a bit expensive there. But the view you will get at the beach is priceless!
A perfect place to spend your weekends. Isn’t it? Please Follow this link for more details http://wikitravel.org/en/Digha.
